Monday’s New Moon is the first Capricorn New Moon without Pluto in Capricorn since 2008! This lunation is a powerful reflection point not only for the closing year, but also for what has changed in Capricorn-land over the past 16 years. What have you transformed or healed when it comes to your purpose and work in the world, your relationship to authority and your sense of self-authority, your integrity and self-respect, your fears and limitations?

You can also consider what has changed in the areas of life represented by the Capricorn house in your chart (according to Whole Sign houses). Having gone on an underworld journey in this realm, having dismantled or released what was stagnant, outgrown, inauthentic, energetically dead in these areas, what do you want to create now?

The Capricorn New Moon is a reset point, a time to plant seeds of intention for the new year. However! The New Moon chart suggests that this intention-setting is less about planning the exact form or timing of what you want to build, or strategizing how it’s all going to play out, and more about clarifying the ESSENCE of your divine mission and who you want to be moving forward. The planets continue to point to a time of deep mystery and many “unknown unknowns,” and trying to nail down the big picture will likely be an exercise in futility (and frustration).

Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn and presiding deity of this New Moon, is in Pisces, bringing focus to your inner world, your spiritual integrity, and what needs to be completed or released. Saturn in Pisces also brings attention to unconscious patterns, what you’ve been avoiding or procrastinating. What old business needs to be taken care of in order to create the new in 2025?

Jupiter’s ongoing square to Saturn was exact for the second time on December 24, and is still strong at – and highlighted by – the New Moon. Jupiter-Saturn can bring confrontation with hard truths, revealing where you may be out of integrity, hiding your truth, attempting to manipulate or control others through what you’re saying or not saying.

When these hard truths come to light, how do you respond? While it can be easy to default into shadow Saturnian judgment, harshness and punishment, Saturn in Pisces recommends forgiveness, compassion and acceptance – which facilitate shifting the old patterns. And, you can make a New Moon commitment to do better moving forward.

The day before the New Moon, Chiron turns from retrograde to direct at 19 degrees Aries - the exaltation degree of the Sun and the precise location of the Aries Total Solar Eclipse on April 8. Look back to April and consider what seeds were planted then for a braver, brighter and more authentic expression of self.

Chiron’s station (standstill as it appears to change directions) could stir up fears, insecurities and wounding that may hold you back from expressing your power and living your passion. Reflect on your healing journey since April - what has shifted in your confidence, courage and willingness to be seen? As Chiron starts moving forward, how are YOU ready to move forward with sharing all of yourself, your gifts and vulnerabilities?

Meanwhile, volatility alert! Retrograde Mars - ruler of Aries - is moving into its second exact opposition with Pluto, peaking on January 3. Consider what was happening in your world at their first opposition, on November 3, while Mars was in Cancer and Pluto still in Capricorn.

Mars is now in Leo, opposing Pluto in Aquarius - different signs, but the same potential for reactivity, polarization and power struggles. Pluto in Aquarius can stir up weirdness and complexity in friendships, group dynamics, how you relate to the collective and issues of belonging or not belonging.

Retrograde Mars suggests that whatever gets triggered is more about the past than the present. Sidestep the temptation to get caught up in conflict and focus on resolving INNER conflict. Move the intense energies through physical exercise and creative outlets. Pride and ego may be living large, but humility and staying centered in your soft, open heart are a better approach.

For more insight into what this new moon means for YOU, find the house in your birth chart that contains 9° Capricorn.

The areas of life signified by that house are where there’s powerful energy for a rebirth, and where you’re invited to:

  • clarify and define your essence, who you want to be moving forward, and what you’re deeply committed to;

  • take radical responsibility for what you’ve created and take care of what you’ve been avoiding;

  • clear out distractions, release what’s not in alignment with your soul’s path, and focus on priorities;

  • raise your standards and elevate your life to the next level of growth and maturity.
