Leo New Moon Solar Eclipse - Release, Reset and Re-Ignition of Love, Purpose and Creative Fire

Wednesday’s Total Solar Eclipse is an extra-powerful New Moon, planting seeds for not only the next moonth but the next 19 years. A Solar Eclipse signifies a resetting of your light - a shedding of what you’ve outgrown, and an initiation into a bigger, more aligned and fulfilling life.
Eclipses, which come in pairs (and sometimes threes) every six months, catalyze into motion what’s been developing behind the scenes. They typically mark major turning points, featuring massive endings and beginnings, and “fated” connections and disconnections.
The whole six-week Eclipse Season - starting two weeks before the first Eclipse and ending two weeks after the second one - can feel like a high-pressure, chaotic portal of accelerated change and growth. Emotions are running high, unexpected events shake you up, and what’s been hidden or repressed demands to be seen and felt.
In Leo, this Eclipse asks: How lit up do you feel? How much fun are you having? Are you living your heart’s passion and purpose? What risk can you take toward greater happiness, aliveness and creative power? As a reference point, the last Leo Solar Eclipse occurred on August 11, 2018. What was happening in your life then, and can you see similar themes recurring now?
Every Solar Eclipse calls for a death to clear the way for rebirth, but when it conjoins the South Node - as it does here - the energy is especially focused on endings, release, and letting go. The South Node in Leo brings awareness to where you’ve been playing a role to get others’ approval and validation - rather than following your heart and shining the light of your true self. What no longer lights you up and makes you happy? What are you holding onto because of how it looks, instead of honoring how you feel?
Relationships are in the spotlight as a headlining arena for change. Leo, which in the body corresponds to the heart, is the sign of love. And Venus, Goddess of Love, is also super-strong at this Eclipse - high and bright in the evening sky, in her home sign of Libra, and forming a harmonious grand trine with Uranus and Pluto.
Relationships that are already solid and aligned could take a big leap forward, while those that are faltering could experience a breakthrough - or it may be time to let go. And if you’re single and looking, there could be opportunities for new connections. Keep your mind and heart open, be willing to speak your truth and reveal your uniqueness, and take a risk!
The Eclipse chart features two “kites” - a planetary formation holding the energy of lift-off. The building of new dreams has been in the works since February 20, when Saturn and Neptune met up at the first degree of Aries. The catalyzing energy of Eclipse Season, plus the harmonious outer-planet cradle/basket, plus two kites means - it’s time to bust a move. Leo says: life is a game and you’re here to play it full-on. Shine your light, lead with love, and take a brave leap toward your heart’s true desires.
For more insight into what this new moon means for YOU, find the house in your birth chart that contains 20° Leo. The areas of life signified by that house are where there’s powerful energy for seeding a new beginning, and where you’re invited to:
tune into your heart’s desires and commit to what feels most ALIVE;
strengthen self-love and self-approval;
take a strategic risk toward your big dreams;
release whatever is limiting your light and vitality, or what’s no longer aligned with your purpose;
initiate or re-start a creative project you feel passionate about.
I go into all the Virgoan details about how to work with these powerful planetary energies in my one-hour New Moon audio transmission, available to paid subscribers on Substack. You can gain immediate access to the recording, and all future New & Full Moon recordings, by becoming a paid subscriber ($16/month or $155/year). Founding subscribers ($185/year) can also join me for a monthly livestream, and receive my Pluto in Aquarius webinar as a gift
LIVE via Zoom: 6 Fridays, July 10-August 21 (no mtg 8/7), 9-11am Pacific/12-2pm Eastern (classes will be recorded)
The progressed chart is a “predictive” tool that reveals the timing and trajectory of your unique evolutionary path. Combined with transits, progressions are an essential technique for understanding the meaning and purpose of this time, and how to effectively work with current energies.
In this 6-week series, you’ll learn how to use the progressed chart to enhance your own self-understanding, and/or to support friends and clients through key life transitions.
I'll share what I've learned in my 20-plus years of professionally reading charts. We practice with plenty of example charts, using charts of group participants.
We’ll cover:
What is the progressed chart and how progressions differ from transits;
The progressed Sun and Solar Arc Directions;
The progressed Moon and progressed lunar cycle;
The progressed New Moon cycle;
Progressed inner planets; retrogrades;
Combining progressions with transits.
This class is for intermediate and advanced students of the cosmic science who already have a basic understanding of natal chart interpretation – i.e., have a working knowledge of the planets, signs, houses and aspects.
Experience with transits will also be helpful. If you’re not sure if this class is for you, contact me.
This workshop is the second module in my upcoming Mentorship program for aspiring astrologers. If you want to participate in the Mentorship Intensive this fall, this class is required.
If you participated in my 2021 progressions class or 2024 mentorship, you’re welcome to take this class for half-price! Contact me to sign up.
Note: Once you sign up, you’ll receive an automated email with all the class details (different from your payment receipt). Please check your spam folder if not in your inbox, and contact me if you don’t find the email.
